| Q: | When I run the setup for T4A Maps I get an 1155 error. |
| A: | Your Microsoft Installer is outdated. Download a recent version from the Microsoft web site first: Windows 95/98/ME (1670 kB) or Windows NT/2000 (1781 kB). |
|
| Q: | Which software do I need to be able to use T4A Maps? |
| A: | The easiest way to enjoy T4A Maps is to use Garmin MapSource software to upload the maps to a map capable Garmin GPS. An alternative method is to use SendMap. To use T4A Maps on a PocketPC we recommend the use of GIS Russa or PocketMV. Either way, you need software that can handle MapSource maps.

|
| Q: | Where should I load T4A on a Garmin Nuvi GPS? |
| A: | T4A maps should be sent to the removable disk “F” on Nuvi 310/350/130/660/670 and Zumo 550 models that have Europe / USA maps pre-loaded in internal memory. Do NOT send T4A maps to internal memory as it can wipe these pre-loaded maps from the GPS. Another option is to get a new SD card just for T4A or a bigger SD card and load T4A and other map sets onto it. Further detail can be found in GPS Settings in the T4A Support library. |

|
| Q: | Does T4A run on the Mio, JNC or Tom Tom GPS? |
| A: | T4A GPS Maps are compatible with Garmin and HandyMap G12 Software. |
|
| Q: | I’m unable to search for addresses on my Quest when T4A and Garmap V1.5 are both loaded on it. |
| A: | The Garmin Quest problem relates to the way the Quest firmware works. According to Avnic Trading who is the South Africa Garmin distributor, the Quest is designed to work the way it does, i.e. when loading more than one routable map to it the unit will not function correctly. The problem appears to be that, unlike on the other Garmin units, if you switch a mapping product off on the Quest the ’Search’ functionality goes haywire when two routable mapping products are loaded on the GPS.
T4A maps have never been routable before and since we introduced routable maps people using both T4A and other maps on their Quest started to experience this problem. After much testing was done T4A realised that if you do not activate Address or Intersection Search on the map compilation process, it actually solves the problem. So it seems as if the clash between the maps are related to these two functions.
T4A maps on the v8.02 CD was not compiled in this way and only maps from March 2008 onwards are compiled with Address and Intersection Search switched off. If you load these maps to your Quest together with other routable maps you do not experience any clashes. T4A maps do not contain address information so we do not require this functionality.
The clash on the Quest is also experienced when loading Garmin City Navigator South Africa together with Garmap Southern Africa Streetmaps, so the problem has nothing to do with Tracks4Africa maps. |

| Q: | I’m unable to locate any POI’s on T4A with the Garmin Colorado GPS. |
| A: | The Colorado GPS only searches for POI’s within a certain radius of the current location. As a result if you are outside this radius (typically 1000km) then it will not find any POI’s for areas outside that radius. The way around this is to set the Colorado into Demo mode. Then set the New Location to a point closer to the area you want to search for POI’s. This is done by going to the Satellite Navigation Page, select Options, select New Location and it will bring up a world map. Select a New Location by pointing the arrow to a position on the map and select Enter. You will then be able to search for POI’s within the radius of the new location you have just entered. |
|
| Q: | My Garmin Colorado switches off when I go to the “Select Map” option to change between different mapsets. I am however able to load multiple mapsets to it. |
| A: | This is a potential problem on some units and it has been addressed by Garmin in the unit firmware update v2.51. The Garmin website lists the potential shutdown when selecting maps with a large variety of maps loaded as being one of the issues fixed between v2.40 and v2.51 of the Colorado firmware. To correct the problem please download the latest unit software from the Garmin website. |
|
| Q: | How do I transfer map/s to my Garmin GPS or compatible device? |
| A: | Firstly map/s are sent from MapSource to your GPS system (if you do not have Mapsource, please look for the free copy of MapSource on this Faq page).
When sending the map/s, Mapsource should be open, your GPS system switch on and plugged in. Each time a mapset is sent to a Garmin GPS the previously loaded maps are erased from the GPS. If your Garmap maps are on your sd card, send our maps to your internal memory and vice versa.
Step1: In Mapsource, go to view, switch to product and select the mapset you wish to send. The map will be visible in front of you, if not Zoom in and out of the map to find.
Step2: Now go to Tools(at the top of the toolbar) and choose Map.

The Maptool is now selected, with this you can select the map/s you want to sent to your GPS. When you click on the map with the Maptool, the map will become pink(see below) if not Zoom into the map.

If you want to send more than one map to your GPS system then just repeat step 1 and 2.
To send the map/s to your GPS, go to transfer on the toolbar, then select send to device.

The screen below should appear.

Your device should be listed there and maps should be ticked. If you made routes or waypoints on the map, and want it sent to your gps device perhaps, then this should also be ticked.
Click then on send. The map/s will be transferred to your device.

| Q: | Are there compatibility issues between some versions of T4A and Mapsource v 6.15.11 and when loading the new Garmap Africa Series 2009 cd? |
| A: | T4A versions 8.02 and earlier are incompatible with MapSource v 6.15.11 and are unable to run on it. This problem was caused by the new way MapSource renders the maps and this was fixed in T4A v8.06. This version 8.06 and all later releases will be compatible with MapSource v 6.15.11.
Users of earlier versions of T4A will have to use MapSource v6.13.7 until such time as they upgrade to a compatible release of T4A. MapSource v6.13.7 can be downloaded from the internet by clicking on the following link:
http://www.tramsoft.ch/gps/garmin_mapsource-software-upgrades_en.html#V06137
Once this has been installed earlier versions of T4A will function properly. T4A v8.06 is however still fully compatible with Mapsource v6.13.7 and earlier versions.
If you have installed the Garmap Africa Series 2009 cd and do have the v8.06 and v8.10 map on your PC which SHOULD work and still have problems opening Mapsource then you’ll have to check your computer’s hard drive to check whether you still have older mapsets on your PC.
To check whether you still have older maps, please follow these instructions:
Start – control Panel – add & remove Programs – now look for maps that say T4A Maps (map name) v8.02 and older – then remove.
The latest version of Mapsource is: 6.15.11
How to see which version of Mapsource you have: Open Mapsource, go to “Help” in the top menu, then click “About Mapsource”, you will see the version number in there.

| Q: | I have T4A GPS Maps 8.06 on CD, can I upgrade MapSource to v 6.15.11? |
| A: | T4A GPS Maps are compatible with the previous version of MapSource (version 6.13.7). A new version was released after our release of the CD and we have noticed an incompatibility with T4A GPS Maps - Traveller’s Africa CD 8.06 or earlier versions. We have released a patch to update the T4A GPS Maps 8.06 CD installation in order to be compatible with MapSource version 6.15.11. This patch is available for download from our website at the link provided below.
Please note:
This patch only applies to T4A GPS Maps - Traveller’s Africa CD 8.06. The maps currently sold on our web site are already compatible with MapSource 6.15.7. The patch will not work on earlier versions of our maps. You only need to run this patch if you want to use MapSource 6.15.7. You do not need this patch if you want to keep on using MapSource 6.13.
Download instructions:
1. Click on the download link and choose the ’Save’ option. Select a place on your computer to save the download file. Be sure that you can get back to this location after the download has completed.
2. Close MapSource if it is open.
3. The file you will download is a zipped file. Double click on it to open the zip folder.
4. Contained in the zip folder you will find an .exe file, double click this file to run it.
5. Follow the on screen instructions.
6. Once the install wizard has been completed you are ready to use T4A GPS Maps - Traveller’s Africa CD 8.06 in MapSource 6.15.7.
